RUST & BONE

3/25/2013

Positives; the actors, it's French/Belgian, working/lower class, mixed martial arts. Negatives, the narrative shifts from character, to character, the story relies too heavily on the "how messed up do I have to be before you'll love me" device, the script is mediocre, and unforgivably, it's too long. A tepid: yes.

Bi-Polar Disorder never looked so good. I love Bradley Cooper, but not Jennifer Lawrence, so this was awkward... Unless your a fan of Robert Di Niro, and/or wonder what Chris Tucker has been up to besides Rush Hour: pass.

PITCH PERFECT

1/16/2013

20 minutes too long, and not enough Adam DeVine. Good for a few laughs: perfect for Glee fans.

CLOUD ATLAS

1/15/2013

Fully expected to hate it, but found it watchable, apart from the rampant yellow-face, and non subtitled patois; so glad I didn't read the book. Great editing. It's long, but worth it. Pictured: David Gyasi.

HYDE PARK ON HUDSON

12/29/2012

If you'd told me, years ago, that Bill Murray would one day portray F.D.R. I'd have hit you with my Dr. Scholls sandal, and yes, he's awesome! Laura Linney is so watchable, you're gonna love it.

ANNA KARENINA

12/26/2012

British Wunderkind and lover of long tracking shots, Joe Wright (Atonement) adapts Tolstoy's novel with a theatrical flair. The cast is fantastic, kudos all around for art, costume, photography, music: loved it!

The explosions and demolitions are great, but this bleak film is unforgivably long, bloated, and boring. The fight scenes are weak and the ADR omnipresent. 160 minutes: the nerve! Could somebody please reign in this excess?

Have you ever had a friend, who answered your every question with a question, usually just repeating your question? Annoying, right? If you hate that, don't watch this quirky romantic comedy starring Jenna Fisher (solidifying her status as the "pretty, yet bland girl") and Chris Messina; unless you absolutely love Toher Grace, who has the funniest role in this simple Detroit love story.

JANE EYRE

10/17/2012

Charlotte Brontë's classic novel is given the gothic horror treatment: beautifully! Starring three of my fav's; Fassbender, Dench, and Wasikowska. Costumes & cinematography are outstanding. Loved it.

HYSTERIA

9/24/2012

Maggie Gyllenhaal is adorable, as usual, in Tanya Fox's feminist period piece about the invention of the electromechanical vibrator: yes! http://www.sonyclassics.com/hysteria/
