SUBMARINE

10/12/2011

Quirky, semi-sweet, funny, Welsh coming of age tale with a great cast including Sally Hawkins, Paddy Considine and Noah Taylor.

EVERYTHING MUST GO

10/5/2011

It's okay. More of a drama than a comedy. Will Ferrell makes it watchable.

GENTLEMEN BRONCOS

10/4/2011

Jared Hess is a genius and how this gem slipped by me, I don't know. Funny, original: loved it!

WIN WIN

9/25/2011

Love love this movie. Funny, well-written family drama / comedy with high school wrestling.

A must-see for fans of Coco. Funny, unpolished documentary chronicling talented, relentless, attention-seeking O'Brien on the road with a live act in response to his firing from NBC.

Absurd slapstick French New Wave comedy with loads of visual and lingual trickery. Louis Malle adapts Raymond Queneau's popular novel. Malle: "a critique of the language of cinema...  with lots of parody and pastiche." Cool because it's Paris: 1960.

PAUL

9/8/2011

Slightly funny, space alien movie homage from Nick Frost and Simon Pegg. Doesn't compare with their previous work; Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz. The cast is fine, direction: ho-hum.

Funny French social comedy starring Catherine Deneuve, Gérard Depardieu, and directed by (Swimming Pool) François Ozon. Set in the late '70s. Sweet.

Dark, funny, weird; great cast, art direction & cinematography. Writer director Todd Solondz takes chances with taboo topics. His writing is tight. See it!

CEDAR RAPIDS

7/20/2011

How long is this Man-Child obsession going to last? And in how many movies will Ed Helms  portray a character in a doomed relationship who falls in love with a blond prostitute? Not many laugh out loud moments, a slight quirky film with John C. Reilly: so therefore you must see it.
