Fortunately the SLA made a ton of audio recordings which are the backbone of this fascinating even-handed documentary about the abduction of Patricia Hearst. The only way it could be better is if the subject submitted to an interview.  Thoughtful treatment of a significant event at a major turning point in our history.

Since there are so few female directors, I'm not going to bag on one, rather admire her skill in making unique, somewhat experimental movies. Sofia Coppola brings her lyrical minimalist style (with good music) to a portrait of a successful yet lost young Hollywood actor, who's also a dad. Might mean more to those familiar with the film industry. Cool car, great locations.

It's odd to listen to a man's voice over a boy's story. Standard misfit kids in school set in the sixties with the theme of tolerance. For older kids and fans of team Ed Harris / Amy Madigan.

Dark comedy, not entirely a teenage (angst) story, like Easy A, but deeper, and funnier. Loved it!

Here's a way to build suspense; don't explain what's going on, and end scenes in the middle, so the viewer is kept wondering "what the...?" and unable to apply finger to fast forward button lest something is revealed. Violent, bloody, revenge film set in Austin Texas. Creepy messed-up characters and weirdly engaging performances. Nasty, mean little disjointed movie which sucked me in for a few minutes.

Jazz, and black and white cinematography are not enough. Without characters, chemistry between those characters, and story structure, it's hard to care.  If you're going to indulge in extreme close-ups, please make sure your subjects are beautiful, or at least interesting.

Director John Cameron Mitchell is making a career in the "loss" genre, "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" (1998). I love adaptations, and this one delicately addresses the unimaginable pain that a  couple experiences with the death of their young son. If you're in the mood for a good cry you wont be disappointed!
