TAKE SHELTER

Michael Shannon; huge head, can speak without moving his lips, mumbles, most moodiest actor since Oliver Reed, intense, amazing: love him. This story suits him, and Jessica Chastain is good too. Excellent film.

RED RIDING TRILOGY

2/20/2012

British TV series adaptation of David Peace's work, loosely based on the Yorkshire Ripper case. Andrew Garfield stars in the first (and best). Cast includes Sean Bean and Paddy Considine. Dark, violent. Try to view it with subtitles. The flashbacks can be confusing, but it's worth it.

BLITZ

8/29/2011

Jason Statham is a bad ass mofo and expert at mumbling pithy lines delivered with withering stares. Love him. Pair him with Paddy Considine as his gay boss / partner, add U.K. flair and style to a police drama which includes a female cop straight out of rehab and have them all chase a fascinating evil psycho cop killer perfectly realized by Aidan Gillen. Loved it.

The hard drive on my laptop went kaput, and I'm trying to recover from a trip to Disneyland CA Adventure. My favorite TV show right now is JUSTIFIED, on the FX Network. The 2nd season started rough, but director Jon Avnet has brought some major talent to this engaging police drama written & exec. produced by novelist and screenwriter Elmore Leonard. Timothy Olyphant plays one of the sweetest Bad Ass Mofo's EVER. Yes, he's a mumbler, but I still enjoy watching him.  Key to any good conflict is the quality of the "Bad Guy." This show has one of the best in Walton Goggins, and he was good in THE SHIELD too...
