Hollywood treatment of the Russo-Georgian war, from the Georgian POV. The battle scenes are okay, and it's cool to see Georgia, but the characters are uninteresting. War sucks.
http://www.fivedaysofwar.com/ Dream roles for Dominic Cooper playing both psychopath Uday Hussein and his unwilling double: Latif Yahia. It works! Violent look into the House of Saddam.
http://thedevilsdoublefilm.com/index2.html Strictly for the middle school demographic. Funny at times, but overall not good, too long, terrible weak ending. Overuse of incredibly annoying blue spherical aberration effect.
Man, play, movie, movement, milieu. Documentary about the journey of the groundbreaking play: The Boys in the Band. Mart Crowley was a failed playwright, and a close personal friend of Natalie Wood. Fascinating look at how he turned it around with a little help from his friends, (and William Friedkin.)
Official Site: http://firstrunfeatures.com/makingtheboys/ Loved the tough Mom's story but the pay-off seems hard to fathom. It's long, too. Great performance by Lubna Azabal. Two tracks from Radiohead. Why the giant red titles?
http://www.sonyclassics.com/incendies/ Xiaogang Feng (True Legend) delivers a heartbreaking story of a family torn apart by a devastating earthquake in 1975 China. Incredible performances, beautifully rendered.
Alex Cox (Repo Man, Sid & Nancy) committed Hollywood suicide with this Acid Western. Imagine if The Clash made a movie: this would be it! Joe Strummer did the score to this oddly humorous and subversive historical (1850s) drama about William Walker's failed attempt to rule Nicaragua. Must see for Ed Harris fans.
http://www.alexcox.com/ No females are in this film! Not for children. Didn't love it.
Official Site: http://www.rareexportsmovie.com/en Not a big fan of the pseudo documentary horror genre, but this Spanish film is lite on the gore, suspenseful, and has a great ending. Great idea to give cameras to two characters!
Official Site: http://atrociousthemovie.com/ Gorgeous romantic drama set in post World War II New Zealand. Great performances and characters. Loved it.
