Writer / director Nicolas Winding Refn and actor Mads Mikkelsen create one of the most difficult and rare phenomenon in cinema: empathy for a total jackhole loser character.

Donnie Yen is so bad ass in this tribute to Bruce Lee, and probably the best film martial artist / choreographer working today. The fight scenes are fantastic, but the direction and editing of the rest is terrible.

KILLER ELITE

Three good actors is a horrible movie; De Niro shows his age, Owen dons a moustache, and Statham phones it in. Crap.

DRIVE

Nicolas Winding Refn (Pusher, Bleeder, Bronson, Valhalla Rising) finally gets to make an American Movie. It pleases me to see James Sallis' novel given the dark Danish treatment. Many Bad Ass Mofo's. Very violent. Ryan Gosling is awesome as usual, but why Carrie Mulligan when you could have cast Eva Mendes. Mmm? Or Salma Hayek, Zoe Saldana, Eva Longoria, Michelle Rodriguez, Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, Ana de la Reguera? C'mon guys!

Pay attention; this film has it all; characters, story, authenticity, great performances. Artistically executed: beautifully portrays the end of an era. Hiroyuki Sanada is awesome: love him!

Origins story covers most of the main points of the original, except for why humans are mute in the future. Andy Serkis and the primate animation are expertly integrated into the live action. The next one should be apocalyptic!

Ugly pile of crap. Just because you can make a movie, doesn't mean you should. Terrible.

THE WARRIOR'S WAY

1/13/2012

Fantasy, Western, Martial Art saga of a swordsman, a baby, a decrepit town of circus freaks, misfits and miscreants. Heavy use of effects, decent cast; including Geoffrey Rush, Kate Bosworth & Dong-Gun Jan. Cool, violent, but sweet and occasionally funny!

Great poster, mediocre movie. The mixed martial arts fight scenes are good. Love Nick Nolte, but the family turmoil feels manufactured, and I didn't fall in love with any of the characters.
